SMART4teachers
You decided to teach to share your knowledge and passion, to inspire and "pass it forward". But now you find yourself managing behaviour, regulating a room of dysregulated nervous systems, holding family complexity, meeting rising expectations, and doing all of it while creating an environment that has to be supportive, secure, and child safe - every single day, no matter how you're feeling underneath it.
Teaching has always been layered - the curriculum, the context, and the care, all carried together. And there's a worry underneath it that a lot of teachers carry quietly: escalating behaviours, a parent complaint that lands hard, a moment where you're scared of getting it wrong and a child's safety is on the line. That's not you failing ; it's what it feels like when the stakes are this real, for you and for the students you're keeping safe.
And it doesn't stop when the end of day bell rings.
It follows you home: into your sleep, your relationships, your ability to walk back in tomorrow with any steadiness left. Without the right support, that toll compounds. You carry the emotional cost, and your own wellbeing and learning as a professional feel it too.
This isn't a personal failing, and it isn't something more willpower fixes. It's a pattern the research is now naming clearly:
Teachers report poorer physical and psychological health than the general working population, with elevated rates of stress, anxiety and depression.
Australian research surveying 560 teachers found 80% had experienced bullying or harassment from a student or a parent in the past year, and classroom disruption has since been the subject of a federal Senate committee inquiry.
Emotional labour and compassion fatigue are now recognised as a significant, measurable cost of the caring work teachers do every day — not a sign that something is wrong with you for feeling it.
National OECD survey data (TALIS) shows Australian teacher stress comes from three distinct sources - workload, student behaviour, and relationships with parents and other stakeholders - not one single cause.
Workload and burnout are consistently the top reasons Australian teachers give for wanting to leave the profession and it's mid-career teachers, the ones with the most to offer, who are most likely to be considering it.
You already know the weight is real. What you probably haven't had is a clear, practical way to understand why it hits you the way it does — and exactly what to do about it, in the middle of a real school day.
That's what this program is for.
YOUR SOLUTION
A 9-module, evidence-informed program built specifically for the realities of teaching, not adapted from a corporate wellness course, and not written by someone who has never stood in front of a classroom.
I'm Fi, a teacher, leader, and education wellbeing coach. I saw the need, and felt it myself, so I built this program because I kept watching capable, caring colleagues quietly run themselves into the ground, with no professional, practical pathway back.
SMART4teachers is built on three simple, sequential pillars: The 3 R’s.
1. RECOGNISE
Understand where your load comes from, how stress actually works in your body, and the hidden cost of caring for others.
2. RESPOND
Build a small, practical toolkit of regulation strategies you can use in the middle of a real teaching day, not just in a quiet room at home.
3. REPOSITION
Change how you carry the work long-term: your boundaries, your recovery, your support, and your plan for staying well in a demanding profession.
Nothing in this program asks you to care less, do less, or want less for your students. It asks you to carry it differently, so you can keep doing this work you love, without it costing you everything else.
HOW SMART4teachers IS DELIVERED
9 Modules
Each module released weekly, includes video, worksheet and practical technique to use each week.
Community Q & A call each week for the nine weeks.
Bonus access to Community Q & A calls for an additional 9 weeks.
12 month access from enrolment to course materials, including modules and worksheets.
RECOGNISE
Module 1 — The Load You're Carrying
Map exactly where and when stress hits hardest in your term, week and day and learn to recognise it in your body before it becomes a bigger problem.
Module 2 — Why You React the Way You Do Under Pressure
A clear, professional explanation of what's actually happening in your nervous system under stress, and why "just calm down" was never realistic advice.
Module 3 — The Hidden Load of Caring
Understand emotional labour and compassion fatigue: real, researched phenomena, not signs of weakness, and learn the difference between caring deeply and carrying everything.
RESPOND
Module 4 — The Science of Calm
Simple, evidence-informed techniques you can use before a hard class, after a difficult conversation, or in the two minutes before the bell.
(See Terms and Conditions)
Module 5 — Beyond the Breath
Practical, body-based tools, including movement and simple muscle release, for the days when breath alone isn't enough.
Module 6 — Staying Steady All Day
How to stop stress from stacking hour on hour, with small recovery habits that fit inside an actual timetable.
REPOSITION
Module 7 — Carrying It Differently
Practical boundaries and containment strategies so the work doesn't follow you into every part of your day.
Module 8 — You're Not Meant to Carry This Alone
How to build real support around yourself (colleagues, leaders, and professional help) and why asking for it is a strength, not a last resort.
Module 9 — Your Plan
Leave with a written, personalised plan: your signals, your tools, your boundaries, and your support, ready for the rest of your career, not just this term.
WHO THIS IS FOR
Feeling the weight of the job more than they used to
Passionate about their work, and wanting to stay in the profession
Open to learning practical, research-backed strategies: not vague "self-care" advice
Ready to be supported, without needing to hit a crisis point first
A note on what this program is, and isn't
SMART4teachers is educational. It's designed to build your understanding and give you practical tools. It is not therapy, counselling, or medical treatment, and it isn't a replacement for professional mental health support. If you're currently finding things very difficult, please speak with your GP, a psychologist, or your school's employee assistance program. This program sits alongside that kind of support, it doesn't replace it.
All practices in this program are optional. You can modify, pause, or skip any of them at any time. There's no wrong way to do this.
It is a simple, practical starting point for schools that want teacher wellbeing to become more visible, more supported, and more embedded in everyday practice.
WHY THIS WORKS
Australian teacher stress, workload and wellbeing
Behaviour, parent conflict and bullying of teachers
Regulation technique evidence

Deciding for your school instead of yourself?

ABOUT FIONA
I have spent 35 years in education as a school leader, teacher, mentor, and coach, working across classrooms, wellbeing leadership, student transition, learning support, Indigenous education, new arrivals, and staff mentoring.
I know the reality of school life, not just in theory, but from inside the work itself.
As a qualified Education Coach, Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Meditation and Breathwork Coach, and holder of a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, my work brings together lived school experience with practical wellbeing support that is credible, usable, and grounded in the demands of everyday education.
As an Education Wellbeing Consultant, what matters most to me is that support feels practical. Not more language to carry. Not another layer of expectation. But a way of helping people recognise stress earlier, respond more steadily, and look after their wellbeing within the work they are already doing.
I created this work because I kept seeing capable, caring people carrying more than they realised, and when they finally recognised the toll it was taking, they often did not know where to start or what to do next. I believe staff wellbeing deserves to be elevated in school culture and spoken about with the same clarity, intention, and commitment that schools bring to student wellbeing and learning outcomes.
“As an LSO in a secondary school, I have worked alongside Fi Mackenzie for nearly two years. The skills and strategies that I have learnt and have been coached in have a direct impact on student learning and outcomes. Fi has extensive knowledge around wellbeing, not only for the student but also the staff to ensure that wellbeing is prioritised. The way in which Fi presents the information is practical and adaptable for different students and classroom environments. I am able to use the strategies immediately as they are clear and concise. I have learnt a wealth of knowledge over the course of the past two years and look forward to more insights from Fi.
I would highly recommend Fi Mackenzie.” - Anita Lidgett
"Working with Fiona has completely transformed my teaching. I can now see the subtly signs of students who are overwhelmed or in need of learning support before they start shutting down. Since incorporating some of her strategies into my lesson plans, my students have grown both socially and academically. Teaching these classes has reminded me that education can be incredibly creative and fun!" -

“Fiona has a wonderful ability to combine warmth and support with highly effective and practical advice. She made me feel capable. Her guidance had a lasting impact on both my teaching practice and confidence as an educator. Fiona quickly became someone I admired professionally. As a beginning teacher I aspired to develop the strong content, knowledge, leadership skills, classroom management and positive classroom relationships that Fiona demonstrated so naturally everyday.
Years later, after teaching across a range of schools and classrooms, I found myself facing an exceptionally challenging cohort of students. Despite having significantly more experience by that stage, I was struggling. Fiona supported me providing practical, realistic strategies that I could implement immediately within my classroom. Even more importantly she empowered me with the confidence to make meaningful changes and trust my professional judgement.
I continue to share Fiona's strategies and insights with my university education students. I encourage future teachers to seek out mentors and professional support throughout their career, just as I did. The support Fiona provided me, especially during a difficult period was invaluable and it continues to influence my practice and the advice I now give to others entering the profession.” - Sara Wise - Educator/Business owner.
SMART4teachers is Fiona's newest program - launching for the first time.
Is this therapy? No. This is an educational program that teaches practical regulation and workload strategies. It's not a substitute for therapy, counselling, or medical care. If you're already working with a health professional, this program is designed to sit alongside that support.
I have a health condition, is this safe for me? The techniques in this program are gentle and designed to be accessible for most adults, and every practice is optional. You can modify or skip anything that doesn't feel right for you. If you have a specific health condition, particularly a cardiovascular or respiratory condition, or you're pregnant (or could be pregnant), please check with your GP before trying any breathing practice, as a general precaution.
Do I have to do the modules in order? The program is built sequentially: each pillar builds on the last, so modules are released and best worked through in order, one per week.
How long do I have access to the materials? 12 months from your enrolment date, including all modules and worksheets.
What happens after the 9 weeks? Your access to the modules and worksheets continues for the 12 months stated above. Bonus offer on enrolment - an additional 9 weeks of access to Community Q & A calls.
Is there a guarantee? If you complete all 9 modules and attend or watch at least 7 of the 9 community Q and A calls, and honestly don't feel more equipped to manage your stress and workload, you'll receive an additional term of community Q & A calls, free. This isn't a refund, it's our way of making sure you get real value from the time you put in. Full terms and conditions apply.
Can my school pay for this instead of me? Yes, many schools have professional learning budgets that can cover this. See the school page → or ask your school to book a call directly.
What if I need more support than this program can offer? Every module includes guidance on when and how to seek further support, including your GP, a psychologist, and your school's employee assistance program. Please reach out to one of these if you need support beyond what this program provides.
